The Australian study of health and relationships: results for central Sydney, inner-eastern Sydney, and New South Wales.

Since the late 1980s there has been renewed international interest in sexual health, corresponding with the advent and spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrone (AIDS). Many countries have conducted national surveys of sexual health risk factors and behaviours, to collect reliable information about sexual behaviour to predict and control the spread of HIV–AIDS. The largest nation-wide surveys of representative samples were conducted in Britain (1990 and again in 2000), in France (1991–92), and in the United States (1992).
